Unusual Dish Planters from Gardener’s Supply

Peace_Planter_GardenersLast week I gave two lectures at my favorite garden and lifestyle store, Gardener’s Supply Company, in Burlington, VT.  I was fascinated by the ‘Peace’ dish planter, a powder-coated steel container shaped like a peace sign. It was filled with lots of funky colorful succulents. Talk about a no-fuss centerpiece that thrives on neglect!  Just give it a bright, sunny spot and water succulents every few weeks. Overwatering is one of the most common reasons for succulents’ demise. Please note that the container doesn’t come filled with plants.  Use your imagination.  Plants for fairy gardens or terrariums are also good choices.  Air plants (Tillandsia) are even easier!
Star_Planter_GardenersThis attractive shallow dish container is also available in a star shape. These charming centerpieces do not have drainage holes – even more of a reason to go light on water. If you plan to use these outside, drill holes in the bottom to encourage drainage, especially after rain. These dish planters retail for $24.95. For more information, click here.
