Travelling to Paradise

A number of folks have asked my advice for the best way to travel to the Grand Garden Show (August 26 – 28) on Mackinac Island in northern Michigan. This ‘unlike-any-other-show’ is extraordinary. True, is it not easy to get to, but it is worth the effort.

I have always flown into the Sault Ste Marie, Michigan airport – a small airport that Delta flies into. Then I take a cab to Shepler’s Ferry to cross over to the island. The cab fare runs around $65+ dollars as I remember). Once on the island there are horse drawn ‘taxis’ to take you to the hotel or B&B where you are staying. Or you could fly into Grand Rapids or Detroit, then rent a car and drive 3.5 hours to the ferry. Leave your car at the ferry parking lot. For more travel suggestions, visit the Show’s Frequently Asked Questions page and scroll to TRAVEL. If you are looking for overnight accommodation options (other than The Grand Hotel), visit https://www.mackinacisland.org/type/hotels/

I hope this helps. Hopefully you can join us for this amazing program!
