Rock’N Grow Sedum is a Thriller

Sedum-ROCKN-GROW-trade-Lemonjade_PerennialResourceSedum has always been a mainstay for fall color – in the garden as well as containers.  Rightly so.  The succulent, broccoli-like foliage jazzes up gardens as soon as it emerges in spring and continues the excitement through fall.   Add to these kudos that it is highly drought tolerant, is beloved by butterflies, provides winter interest and is rabbit resistant, and you have a rock star. Sedum-ROCKN-GROW-trade-Pure-JoyBut instead of planting the same old, same old ‘Autumn Joy’ (YAWN!) liven things up with three high-fliers from Proven Winners Rock’N Grow Collection.  ‘Lemonjade’ has unique, citron yellow flowers that blanket grey-green foliage.  It tops out at 16” – 18” tall.  ‘Pure Joy’ (pictured right) forms low mounds of striking blue-green, serrated leaves that become completely covered with bubblegum pink flowers starting in late summer.  It stays a tad shorter, growing to 10” – 12” tall.

Sedum-ROCKN-GROW-trade-MaestroThe big boy of the group is ‘Maestro’ (pictured right).  This is my favorite large sedum.  Its vibrant blue-green leaves take on a purple tone as the season progresses.  The sharp reddish-purple stems add additional interest that culminates in large clusters of red buds that open to rich mauve pink flowers.  All three of these sedums will surely bring on a curtain call from admiring garden audience.
