Nutri-Mulch

I first learned about Nutri-Mulch when I discovered that Bill Cullina, Executive Director at Coastal Maine Botanical Garden, uses this organic material on their display beds. That was good enough for me so I gave it a try. I could not be more pleased with how this rich dark material (undyed!) suppresses weeds, reduces water loss from evaporation, infuses nutrients into the soil, and provides a stunning backdrop to my plants. The mulch is manufactured from aged native Maine bark and earthlife™ compost (sawdust, woodchips and municipal biosolids). It is approved for use on edibles by the State of Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection.

A number of premier garden centers around Portland, ME carry this product, including O’Donal’s Nursery and Estabrook’s Garden Center. To find other distributors in Maine, contact my friend Chris Bales at (207) 650-7021. For those looking for a source in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island or Connecticut, contact Dave Mahar at (781) 883-9380. (I just took this photo. I mulched the gardens last weekend, but this nonstop wind and rain has blown maple seeds on my lovely Nutri-Mulch)
