Garden Maintenance Tip for Spring

Squelch the Uprising!
Tiarella_Jade_PeacockThis is the time of the year when some ‘uppity’ perennials decide to push their way out of the ground, exposing tender roots to damaging wind and light.  Actually, it’s not really the plant’s fault – thawing and freezing soil lifts them skyward.  Our job as gardeners is to ‘put them back in their place’ by pressing popped up clumps down into the ground so they are nestled safely in the warming soil.  Perennials that have a tendency to do this are coral bells (Heuchera), foam flowers (Tiarella), foamy bells (Heucherella) and German Bearded Iris.
