Two years ago the magazine was purchased by a new publisher, Jim Peterson, and the changes have been mind-boggling. I had the pleasure of meeting Jim and he, along with the staff, are as topnotch as the magazine. Features include idea-filled gardens, outdoor furnishings and décor, design ideas and travel advice. Truly, there is nothing out there that compares with this exceptional, work-of-art magazine. Plus the magazine’s web site is filled with garden design ideas, plant features, cool products, intriguing places to visit (both nationally and internationally) and much more. Be sure to sign up for the free newsletter while you’re on the site.

An annual subscription for four, hefty ‘book-like’ magazines is $45 (a $7 savings from the cover price). To subscribe, click here.

To give you a peek at this unparalleled magazine, in each of my monthly newsletters I will write a snippet about one of the features in a current or upcoming publication.

Featured story from the Summer 2015 magazine:

Modern Masterpiece: Walk through this classic Dan Kiley garden, and you never know what you’ll discover next

Pg60 Roger Foley photograph Garden Design Feature“Patterns” is the name of a 10 acre property in Delaware’s Brandywine Valley that is home to Pete du Pont (who served three terms as a Congressman and two terms as the Governor of Delaware) and his wife, Elise. The striking brick house was designed by architect Irving W. Colburn and built in 1967. The gardens evolved afterwards and have thrived over the past twenty-five years, thanks largely to Elise’s passion and supervision. The magnificent landscape houses many different rooms, including a bluestone, granite and gravel dining terrace; outdoor spa; fern walk; kitchen garden; lap pool and a hill of hellebores. My dear friend and renowned plantsman, David Culp, has consulted with Elise on the gardens for 15 years. Penelope Hobhouse has also played a part in the magical design, specifically with the master bedroom garden. Breathtaking water features , pots, urns and strong architectural elements abound. As I was reading the article I kept feeling my jaw drop more and more. Every time I thought the photography and design ideas couldn’t get any better, I turned the page and wham!, another treat for the eyes and mind. A must read! (patio photo by Roger Foley)
