Award-Winning Annuals

My winter newsletter featured some award-winning perennials in the All-America Selections collection. Now let’s take a peek at some rockstar annuals with the coveted AAS National title. One of the 2021 winners is Zinnia Profusions Red Yellow BiColor. I’ve always been a fan of the Profusion series for non-stop blooms, tidy habit, and resistance to powdery mildew. But ‘Red Yellow Bicolor’ takes the appeal to a whole new level!

Celosia Kelos Candela Pink is the other national winner. I have never grown Celosia – but that will change this year! The 2020 winners were Coleus Main Street Beale Street and Nasturtium Tip Top Rose. I was enthralled by one of the 2019 winner, Carmine Velour Wave Petunia. I could go on and on, but you can check these all out, including winning edibles, on the AAS website.

All-America Selections is an independent non-profit organization that tests new, never-before-sold varieties for the home gardener. After a full season of anonymous trialing by volunteer horticulture professionals, only the top garden performers are given the AAS Winner award designation for their superior performance. AAS is the only national, non-profit plant trialing organization in North America.
