April 28th Fine Gardening Institute

APRIL 28 FINE GARDENING INSTITUTE

Every year I try to offer at least one in-depth, how-to perennial gardening and landscape design courses known as Fine Gardening Institutes.  This spring it will be on Saturday, April 28 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Faddegon’s Nursery in Latham, NY.  I’m actually partnering with Faddegon’s to host this workshop.  The Fine Gardening Institute covers how to assess light conditions, soil analysis, proper placement of plants in a design for pleasing heights and three seasons of bloom; preparing and planting new beds and how to amend soil in old ones; the best perennials, shrubs and annuals for longest bloom and easiest care; incorporating hardscapes into your design; recommended mulches and fertilizers; plant divisions; cutting back the gardens in the fall and jump-starting them in the spring; and time-tested maintenance tips and shortcuts for your garden’s care.  Instructors are master landscape designer Jack Faddegon (one of the owners of Faddegon’s); Bob Graves (another owner and garden guru extraordinaire); Jason Schultz (premier plantsman and designer), and myself.  The institute will be held in the brand new greenhouse ‘conservatory’ at the nursery.  The course registration fee is $75 per person and it includes lunch and light refreshments.  To register, please contact Faddegon’s Nursery at (518) 785-6726 ext. 2.   Space is limited.
