2019 Great Gardens and Landscaping Symposium
I am amazed that this will be the 15th annual symposium that I’ve organized. I started these events when I lived in Ballston Spa, New York with the intention of bringing together gardeners of all ages and abilities from around the Albany, New York region. The first symposium was held at the Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa in Saratoga Springs. There were just over 100 attendees. The event has now grown to almost 250 attendees from all over the country and Canada. Astonishing.
The 15th Great Gardens and Landscaping Symposium will be on April 13, 2019 at the Woodstock Inn and Resort in Woodstock, VT. The event includes a pre-symposium garden class on Friday afternoon as well as the ever-popular Gardeners Marketplace featuring unique vendors. Of course, nationally-recognized speakers, gourmet food, and first-class accommodations are a given.
One of the speakers in the line-up is Matthew Benson. I first met Matthew when he was the photographer for a magazine feature about me and my gardens in Upstate, NY. We became great friends. Since then we have overlapped as speakers at numerous events across the country.
Matthew is an award-winning photographer. His photography is in the permanent collection of the International Center of Photography in New York City, as well as numerous private and gallery collections. His work has been awarded both DESI and Society of Publication Designers Awards and appears regularly in magazines, books and catalogs. He has many prestigious clients including Better Homes & Gardens, Conde Nast Traveler, Esquire, GQ, The New York Times, Organic Gardening, and Country Gardens. Plus he has written numerous books, including many cookbooks, his most recent Growing Beautiful Food (Rodale 2015) is based on his organic farm in New York’s Hudson Valley.
To say that Matthew is a brilliant, inspiring, gifted photographer, speaker, gardener and cook is an understatement.
